Western Illinois University offers a caring, supportive learning environment with the advantages of a large public university – strong faculty, state of the art technology and facilities, and a wide range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities – in an atmosphere free from distractions. Western provides a low student-to-full-time faculty ratio (16:1) and an average class size of 22 students. Western ensures that education is affordable and attainable through its guarantee programs. Western’s Cost Guarantee locks in the cost of tuition, room, board and fees for four years. Our GradTrac program guarantees students graduate in four years or less in most academic programs.

- Western Illinois Commitment means automatic scholarships for
applicants who beat the priority deadline with a 22 and 3.0 GPA
- Scholarship money can increase through the spring for students who retake their ACT and raise their score
- WIU has added a new program in Sports Broadcasting
- Some of WIU’s strongest programs are in construction, law enforcement
and supply chain management
- Strict priority deadline for students is
December 1. Apps must be complete by this date.
- Pre-nursing requires separate application,
strong history in math and science, and 500 word essay. Students should have a
22 and 2.75 for potential entry in this program.
- Students with a 2.2 and 3.0 can go to the new
Quad Cities campus which does have housing
- WIU has established 70 2 & 2 programs designed for 2-year
college transfers so that they will graduate in four years.

Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center— The center provides ongoing cultural experiences, academic enhancement opportunities, and social programs designed to aid in the adjustment of African American students at Western Illinois University.
Casa Latina Cultural Center–The mission of the center is to provide support services for Latino and International students and further provide an informed understanding of their rich cultures to West Central Illinois communities, surrounding areas and the people of the state of Illinois.
